Construction Materials

We take a standard citrus squeezer and modify it to be a citrus smasher!


The Ultimate Manual Citrus Smasher is constructed of FDA / NSF compliant materials in all areas that could come in contact with food. We use stainless steel and Acetal Copolymer. 

One Piece Stainless Main Rod & Hardware

One (1) solid piece is better than three (3) linked pieces and less likely to cause problems. No more linkage issues and screws loosening.


We utilize a one-piece 304 stainless steel rod, with a TIG welded stainless steel center pivot rod,  in the construction of the Ultimate Manual Citrus Smasher. 


Many of the current manual smashers utilize the same chrome-plated upper rod that came with the original squeezer. Then, a milled block of aluminum is utilized for the cross connector with a set screw to attach it to the upper rod. This set screw could come loose and require tightening periodically. An aluminum lower rod , which is most likely not food grade unless they have documentation to prove otherwise, is utilized for the lower rod. Thus, the description of a three (3) piece rod system. The more pieces, the more likely problems can occur or parts could come loose. 


Acetal Copolymer Smasher Head (Puck) & HDPE Base Plate

The Ultimate Manual Citrus Smasher utilizes Acetal Copolymer for the smasher head (puck) with a stainless steel jam nut. Acetal Copolymer is also utilized for the base plate. Acetal Copolymer is an FDA / NSF compliant material. It does not fade, chip or flake when exposed to acidic fruits.

Most current smashers utilize a smasher head (puck) which is aluminum and not food grade unless documentation can be provided stating otherwise.

SAFETY / MAINTENANCE

 SAFETY


- Smasher should only be operated by trained individuals. Be sure to read the operation and cleaning guides before using. Adult supervision is required for anyone under the age of 18.


MAINTENANCE


- Periodically tighten all pivot screws and back pole screws, as they can loosen over time. Do not over-tighten. Maintaining the tightness of these screws is important to the longevity of the smasher. All side pivot screws should be tightened / loosened with a metric M4 hex key wrench only. The back pole screws should be tightened / loosened with a metric M5 or M6 hex key wrench only (Depends on model). Using other type wrenches could damage the heads.


- Apply a food grade approved lubricant to the upper main rod and all pivots. Then move the handle up and down to ensure it has a smooth operation. 


CAUTION: KEEP HANDS CLEAR OF MOVING PARTS AND SMASHER HEAD WHEN IN USE TO AVOID INJURY RISK.


OPERATION


- Position the smasher on a flat, dry counter-top.

- Place a 32 ounce deli cup, with sliced citrus, underneath the smasher head.

- REMOVE HAND BEFORE APPLYING DOWNWARD PRESSURE

- Press the handle down to smash the citrus and extract the juice. Repeat if needed.

- Lift handle and remove the deli cup.


CLEANING 


- Disassemble the smasher head by turning counter clockwise and then the jam nut in the same manner. 

- Wash the aforementioned parts with an approved sanitizer.

- Now, wipe the smasher with a damp, soft cloth and an approved sanitizer. Do not submerse the smasher base in water. 

- Allow parts to dry and reassemble.

- First, take the jam nut and thread it on the main rod by turning clockwise until it cannot be advanced any longer.

- Finally, thread the smasher head onto the main shaft. Be careful to make sure the smasher head, made from Acetal Copolymer, is perpendicular to the main shaft and begin to turn clockwise. It should thread smoothly without resistance. DO NOT ADVANCE IF RESISTANCE IS OBSERVED. Remove, reposition the smasher head and attempt to thread onto the main rod again. Next, turn the jam nut counterclockwise until it touches the smasher head and hand tighten only. The jam nut must be hand-tightened against the smasher head.
